Blood Brother is the eighth episode of Season 1 on The WB sci-fi series Roswell.
Synopsis[]
Max ends up in hospital after a car accident, and as part of his treatment, the staff perform a routine blood test. With the FBI agents sniffing around, it's vital that the somebody pulls a switch, such that the blood they get is human. Now, where are they going to get some suitable human blood from? They get it from Alex, who finally takes a stand and tells off Liz.
Summary[]
Act 1[]
Wanting to share a normal teenage moment, Max and Liz ditch school to take a drive on an old highway. Things take a turn for the worse when Max swerves to avoid a wild horse and crashes into a ditch.
Act 2[]
Liz is unhurt, but an unconscious Max is whisked to the hospital. Michael and Isabel rush in to see a nurse drawing Max's blood. The kids realize a simple blood test could jeopardize their cover as humans, and decide to turn to Alex for help. At school, Topolsky learns Max is in the hospital and instructs one of her agents to check out the situation. As Michael and an FBI Agent both race to snag Max's blood sample, Liz and Isabel draw a confused Alex's blood. Michael is successful in replacing Max's blood sample with Alex's. As he leaves, Michael notices a man in a suit looking at Max's chart. Now desperately wanting to tell Alex the truth about the aliens, Liz goes to Max who tells her involving Alex would not be a good idea. Unsatisfied with Liz's excuses, Alex asks if it's drugs and asks Liz to tell him the truth, and Liz agrees that it's drugs.
Max wakes up, and Liz comes in to see him, and she meets Max's mother who's also there.
As they're leaving, Maria remembers that she left her purse behind. When Michael goes back to get it, he sees the agents going through Max's room. That night, Michael tells Max and Isabel what he saw.
Topolsky speaks with her agent who reports that the blood test came back normal, but they think they switched blood samples with Alex.
The next day, Alex sits with Kyle, who thinks Alex is just there for Liz.
Max and Liz go out on a date, and Max is followed by an agent. Maria, Michael, and Isabel follow the agent.
Act 3[]
Maria, Michael, and Isabel follow the agent to his hotel.
Maz and Liz talk at school about what happened, and Liz wants to tell him the truth, but Max doesn't want that.
Maria and Michael break into the agent's hotel room. They learn his name is Morris and find a phone number in the trash. They call the number and Topolsky picks up, and they realize that Topolsky is more than just a guidance counselor.
At school, Topolsky talks to Alex and slips something into his drink. While Liz tries to talk to Alex, his nose starts bleeding. He goes into the bathroom to treat it and throws away bloody tissues, and Topolsky goes in afterward and pulls the tissues from the trash.
Act 4[]
Maria tells Liz about Topolsky, and Michael tells Max and Isabel.
Alex comes to Topolsky's office and she tries to get him to talk. Afterward, Max tries to talk to Alex, who tells him that "Topolsky already knows" and that she tried to get him to sign something.
Alex meets Liz at the Crashdown to talk. She asks him to trust her even though she can't tell him what's going on.
At school, Alex goes to Topolsky and tells her he's worried about Liz. He brings up drug involvement, but from the look on her face he isn't sure it's drugs anymore. She asks him to write down what happened at the hospital. Liz interrupts, and Topolsky steps out of the room to speak to her. Liz gives Topolsky a story about how Alex has changed and he's jealous of her new friends. Meanwhile, alone in her office, Alex gets on Topolsky's computer. Topolsky realizes that Liz is stalling her, and Topolsky returns to her office, but Alex has already discovered that Topolsky is with the FBI. Exposed, Topolsky leaves with a warning to Liz that there will be others who will come to investigate Max.
After, Alex tells Liz that either she tells him the truth or he walks. Liz apologizes, but she can't tell him. Alex walks away.
